Mazda Is Recalling Over 100,000 Vehicles For Stall Risk

Mazda owners of the St. Petersburg area should be aware that a recent recall is affecting more than 100,000 vehicles throughout the United States. Vehicles included in the recall are the 2018 Mazda3 sedan and hatchback models, 2018 Mazda6 sedans, 2019 CX-3 SUVs, 2018 and 2019 MX5 Miata coupes and convertibles, 2018 and 2019 CX5 and CX9 SUVs, and 2019 and 2020 Mazda2 hatchbacks. Overall the recall is set to include about 121,000 vehicles at this time.The recall stems from a faulty fuel pump inside of the Mazda vehicles manufactured by automotive supplier Denso. Denso supplies fuel pumps not only to Mazda, but Subaru, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Ford, Acura, Honda, and Lexus, with many more recalls for other affected car makes and models expected in the coming months. The fuel pumps provided by Denso run the risk of developing cracks, causing them to fail while the vehicle is being started or while the vehicle is in motion. If the fuel pump fails while the vehicle is in motion, the vehicle is likely to stall which may lead to an auto accident.
This is a new recall, only announced in mid-November of 2021, and owners of the affected vehicles are yet to be notified of the next steps. Mazda is planning to roll out formal notifications to vehicle owners beginning in the early weeks of January 2022. The fuel pump issue may be fixed at a Mazda dealership free of charge. Mazda dealers will inspect the fuel pumps on the affected models and, if necessary, fully replace the fuel pump with a new and non-faulty model. Once replaced, vehicle owners can feel confident that the stall issue is fixed and their vehicle is safe to drive once again.
