Never Leave The Accident Scene
If you strike an object, pedestrian, or car, don't flee. Instead, stick around and make sure you identify yourself to the victim. Failing to distinguish yourself or render aid to an injured person could spell big trouble. For example, if you take off, the police might bring criminal charges against you.
Then, rather than getting tickets and paying fines, you could be in for some jail time. At the bare minimum, if no one is around at the time of the incident, make it a point to leave a note or business card with your name, address, and phone number. That will let the person know who to contact about the issue.
Don't Admit Guilt
Even if there is no doubt about it, never admit guilt to the other party in a crash. That may seem a bit silly, but if a legal claim arises, you won't think so later on. Admitting guilt might complicate matters between you and the insurance companies. It is also a good idea not to place blame on anyone else.
Things can get heated quickly after an accident if accusations start getting thrown around. So, stay calm and focus on making sure everyone is alright. Then, contact the police to file a report, and your lawyer can figure out the rest later on.

So, you've rendered aid as you're supposed to after the accident, now what? Well, if you are able, pull out your smartphone and start taking pictures of the scene. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and that is so true. Don't let your reality become a nightmare. Instead, snap some pics and get the proof you need to back up your claim.
