Wrong Way Driver Crashes Into A Patrol Car In Pasco County
Early Saturday morning a drunken wrong-way driver crashes into a state patrol car. The trooper was stationed in the driver’s path according to the highway patrol.
The drunken driver, Adonis Francisco Adames, 23, of Zephyrhills was arrested and charged with driving in the wrong direction and driving under the influence.
After receiving a report, police caught the driver at around 2:40 A.M. driving north on Interstate 275 near milepost 50 in the southbound lane. The police responded to the call as Adams headed north on I-75 according to the highway patrol.
The police officer was positioned in his patrol car waiting for Adames north of State Road 56, in the path of the wrong-way driver. Adams was driving a red 2021 Toyota Camry. He hit the police car that was waiting for him on the left side.
The trooper driving the patrol car, who is unknown, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Adams was not injured. He took a breath test of .148. Florida law proves a person is drunk at a .08 level.
Reports from a dashcam prove that Adams was veering into the path of the trooper's car before the crash. Adams then backs up and then drives forward again. The trooper yells at Adams to turn off his car.
A similar accident occurred a year ago where a drunken driver barreled head-on into a trooper’s vehicle while they were driving toward the skyway 10 K race. The officer who was hit in the incident, Toni Schuck, was the only patrol guarding the lives of 8,000 runners.
